Promotional music photography - what to expect
Here's some information about what you can expect when you book a photo shoot with me. Booking your first shoot with someone you've never met, especially if you're not used to being in front of a camera, can be daunting - hopefully this section will answer some of the questions you may have.
- Ideas
Before the session we should talk about how you want to portray yourselves in your photos. If you've already got ideas for your shoot (theme, location etc.), I'd like to hear them! From a practical point of view it's good for me to know in advance what you want to achieve, partly so that we can make sure that your expectations of the shoot are realistic, and partly so that if there's a certain style you really like, we don't waste time on ideas that you're not going to use. - Attitude
Mine and yours :) This can make or break the shoot!
Presumably you want to book a shoot because you care about your image and realise that good photos are an asset, so it's worth remembering that your attitude will always show through in your photos - if you think it's a waste of time, and you'd rather be at the pub, it's more than likely that this will show in your face! I want you to come away from a shoot feeling happy, relaxed, and satisfied with what we've achieved, and will do my best to make you feel at ease, giving you direction where needed, and providing feedback on poses as we go along. - Style
Think in advance about the clothes that you want to wear, bring several outfits, and co-ordinate with the other members of your band to make sure that you all agree about the look that you're going for. If you need make-up or styling you will need to arrange this. - Location
I can hire a studio if circumstances and your budget allow, but location shooting almost always gives more flexibility. I don't own or rent studio space but am happy to hire a studio on request (studio hire will be charged at cost and is payable in full at the time of booking). - Availability
All of my photo shoot timeslots are evenings and weekends. Please contact me as far in advance as you can if you would like to book a shoot, and don't forget to make me aware of any deadlines that you have. - What happens afterwards?
The end of the photo session is not the end of the job - the next stage is selection and post-production. The first thing that you'll receive is a private web gallery containing a set of proofs of the best images from the shoot within a few days, including examples of colour and style choices that will suit the photos. Once you've decided which photos you want to use and have given some feedback about how you want them to look, I will complete the post-production work.
