Friday night’s gig was a real treat for me. I’ve been a fan of Dan Reed since I was a student in Nottingham some 18 years ago, and it’s 15 years since he last gigged in the UK. I got to the venue nice and early, and grabbed a seat at the front of the raised bar (an hour and a half standing in a queue in the cold is not so great for slightly arthritic joints, my foot and knee weren’t feeling 100%, so I didn’t fancy my chances of remaining upright all evening!)
There was no support act, and it was lovely to sit there relaxing, chatting to a few people, and watching the venue swell to what looked like capacity over the next hour and a half or so, before Dan and his acoustic guitar took to the stage at around 8.45.

The set was a strong mix of the new and the old, and as it turned out, I was having such a good time singing along that I only picked up the camera a few times, and only took around 50 shots all night – far fewer than I usually take, even in venues with a three song limit.
You can hear some of Dan’s new material on MySpace. With a new album on the way and a return to the UK promised next April, the future is looking good!
